The Ban on Incandescent Lamps

How the ban works: You can still buy and use incandescent lamps at homoe. However, these will not be imported and more. We have some stock left; but when the shelves run empty, customers will be able to use a wide variety of other lamps including halogen, compact fluorescent lights (CFL), and LED lights bulbs.  Find some interesting reading on incandescent lights here   "cloud"   and   "How To Switch"

Here's a breakdown of the alternatives:

Halogen Lights

  • Closest colour temperature to incandescent lamps

  • Only last for 1000 hours

  • Consume approximately 43 watts compared to a 60 watt incandescent light (read more)

  • The cheapest of the bunch

CFL Bulbs  (more info)

  • Last considerably longer 100000 hours

  • Consume 13 watts for the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent bulb  (read more)

  • Priced slightly higher

  • Contain trace amounts of mercury that has to be recycled at a proper facility  (read more)

  • Produce cooler light, tinting rooms in a slight blue rather than warm orange tinged incandescent bulbs
